Who doesn’t love a good cashew dip? As a student and someone who is always trying to save a dollar or two, a homemade dip is always something I opt for and love to make. Dips are not complicated, but it is all about picking simple flavorful ingredients that pair well together!

As a nutritionist and a foodie, I like to make recipes that are versatile for any occasion. This recipe is perfect as a dip, a spread, or can be made into a sauce.

If you don’t have a food processor or some high tech blender, no worries! With this recipe, I used a Magic Bullet.

The most important key to this recipe is slowly adding water to get the desired consistency.

Let's get started!

CASHEW DIP INGREDIENTS:

  • 200 grams unsalted whole cashews
  • 2 small garlic cloves
  • ½ lemon
  • 50-60 mL of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. sesame oil
  • 1 tsp. Himalayan sea salt
  • 1 tsp. sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp. nutritional yeast
  • 5 tsp. coconut sugar
  • Water

THE STEPS:

  1. Measure out ingredients.
  2. Place ingredients except for sesame seeds into the blender.
    1. I use a magic bullet for smaller batches. For a larger batch, opt for a food processor or a bigger blender.

  3. Add 150 mL water to start and blend.
    1. Keep adding 50-100 mL of water at a time to achieve desired consistency and all cashews are fully blended.
    2. Note: more water will make it into a more liquid and creamier texture.
  4. Transfer to mason jar or bowl and top with sesame seeds.
  5. Enjoy your fresh homemade dip!

USES

I have a few favourite uses for this dip:

  • A dip for veggies or tortilla chips
  • Spread onto sandwiches or burgers
  • Pasta sauce. This is a fun one!
    • To use as a sauce, thin out dip by using more water, add in more nutritional yeast, add it the pan with your cooked pasta and some heat, and voila!
