How to Change Your Mood with Food

How to Change Your Mood with Food

Guest post by Justyna Zarzeczny from Thrive With The Seasons

If you were in a good mood, which would you choose: a bowl of fruit or candy?

What about if you were in a bad mood?

We’ve heard it many times before that food affects your mood. But it’s also been shown that your mood affects your eating habits. Studies have demonstrated that those who are in a positive mindset are more likely to choose healthier foods versus those in a bad mood.

When we are in a positive state of mind, we have a better ability to acknowledge the nutritional component of food. When we are in a bad mood, we are guided by our senses and instant gratification, which is why we are more likely to reach for junk food.

So are you doomed every time you are in a bad mood?

Of course not. But your health depends on your willingness to change and practice mindful eating.

How to choose a mood and nourish with the right food

1. Identify your mood

2. Accept what you feel

3. Identify how you want to feel

When you choose to feel a certain way, you want to ensure your actions and food habits complement the mood. It’s up to you to tune into your body to help you determine which foods fuel you and which ones drain your energy, cause brain fog and deplete your body. Next time you sit down for a meal, ask yourself “How am I feeling?” And once you are finished eating, take a moment to bring awareness to your body and make note of how you are feeling post meal. You’ll be surprised how well you’ll come to know your body.

In collaboration with The Good Stuff, I've narrowed down 4 feel good foods that will leave you feeling energized, alert, connected, and relaxed:

Alternatively, CBD has been shown to have mood-boosting properties due to its ability to interact with the body's endocannabinoid system. Research has found that CBD may help to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, which are common causes of negative moods. Incorporating CBD oil in your diet can promote feelings of relaxation and calmness, which can help to improve overall mood.

When you fuel according to your needs, you radiate, you glow, you are strong and you can achieve anything you put your mind to. No one knows your body better than you. If you were a smoothie flavor or specific dish, which one would you be?
